Can't Afford A Personal Trainer?

Do you want a personal trainer but just can't afford the $50-75 fee? Well too bad you don't live near me because I don't charge that much! I do have another solution for you: ask the trainer to workout with someone else and you split the cost of the session. They get a great workout for half the cost and they get to spend time with their BFFs. Another way to get a use of a personal trainer is to pay an initial fee with a trainer and have them show you all the moves and machines for safety. You ask and pay for a written workout plan. That will be much cheaper as long as you are disciplined to to do the workout. I know I have written workouts for people at a much cheaper price after we have met for a few sessions. I know for me, I like to make sure my client has the basics down before I let them loose in the gym.

Another option is to sign up online for workouts and meal plans. Fitness Magazine for example has an online personal training tool. You select your meals, workouts and track your progress. The two plans to choose from. One is $8.99 a month and with the first 3 months at 39.99.The other plan is $69.99 for the year. Both include diet and workout plans and the good news is you can try it for 10 days free!

Shape.com and many others have virtual trainers to follow. It includes eating and exercise plans at no extra cost.
Almost everywhere you look, you can find someone or some plan to help you be fit and healthy at a lower cost. There you have another frugal fitness solution..happy working out!

The Weekly Resolution: The Weekly" Fail-Solution"

  • Monday: Dear Body, I promise to make it to the gym everyday this week and eat only healthy foods.
  • Tuesday: Dear Body, the baby is cranky today so I promise to make it to the gym 4 times this week and eat salads with every meal.
  • Wednesday: Dear Body, I am sorry my alarm clock didn't go off so I couldn't go to the gym and I didn't make it to the store to buy salad. I will work out at nap time.
  • Thursday: Dear Body, I promise to eat a salad at Chic Filet when we meet for playgroup and I will take a walk after nap.
  • Friday: Dear Body, I am so upset I didn't exercise once or eat well all week. I am going to pig out the rest of the week and start again on Monday. I promise!!!
Instead of 10 things you promise yourself, commit to one and make it small. Commit for a week to wake up 30 minutes early or drink an extra glass of water a day, NOT 8!!! Keep up those habits and then add one or two more. When you "fall off the healthy wagon" don't go all rogue and ruin it with 4 candy bars. Eat one and then move on. When you are a mom, life happens and you have to plan around it. You can't have your life planned around you. Your kids get sick, you have one too many errands etc..it happens. Pick yourself up and keep going. If you can't get to the gym that day try working out at home for 30 minutes or play an outdoor game with your kids. The point is, don't over promise yourself each week because you will most likely fail. That is how gyms profit: The New Year's Resolutioners! They commit for 3 years and make it for 2 weeks. When they don't lose the 30 lbs they want or get hurt because they went to 7 classes in a week, they quit. Do yourself a favor: quit making promises and just make small changes. They will add up over time and you will stop feeling like a failure on Fridays.

Grilled Lime Pork Tenderloin

recipe photo
2
pork tenderloins (3/4 lb each)
4
cloves garlic, thinly sliced
2
tablespoons grated lime peel
1
tablespoon vegetable oil
2
teaspoons fresh lime juice
1/2
teaspoon honey
1/4
teaspoon salt
1/8
teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  1. Heat gas or charcoal grill. Cut small, 1/4- to 1/2-inch-deep slits in top of each pork tenderloin. Insert garlic slices into slits.
  2. In small bowl, mix lime peel, oil, lime juice, honey, salt and pepper until well blended.
  3. When grill is heated, brush pork tenderloins with lime mixture. Place pork on gas grill over medium heat or on charcoal grill over medium coals; cover grill. Cook 18 to 22 minutes, turning several times, until pork has slight blush of pink in center and meat thermometer inserted in center reads 160°F. Cut pork into slices to serve.
Makes 6 servings
I marinated them all day.
